Anthropic Files for IPO With Founder-Controlled Governance and Surging Revenue
Anthropic filed for an IPO under the ticker "ANT," reporting $16.3 billion in first-half 2026 revenue, up from $1.2 billion a year earlier, with a $693 million operating loss and an $80.7 billion net loss driven by noncash adjustments. Its seven co-founders will control 50.1% of voting power through a "Founder LLC," and its Long-Term Benefit Trust will appoint most of the board, a structure the company says preserves its AI safety mission.
Skynet Chance (+0.01%): The governance structure is meant to shield the safety mission from shareholder profit pressure, which slightly mitigates risk. However, going public adds commercial pressure at a company that itself acknowledges its technology poses catastrophic risks, so the net effect is a small increase.
Skynet Date (-1 days): Public-market capital and rapid revenue growth will fund further scaling of frontier models. This accelerates the pace at which more powerful systems arrive.
AGI Progress (+0.02%): Revenue rising more than tenfold year over year and thousands of large enterprise customers show frontier models delivering real economic value. That adoption reinforces the case for continued capability investment.
AGI Date (-1 days): An IPO opens a major new funding channel for compute and research at a leading frontier lab. Easier access to capital removes a key constraint on scaling and likely brings AGI timelines forward.
