Anthropic Launches Claude Duet, a Proactive Agent App for Professionals and Small Businesses
Anthropic released Claude Duet, an agent app built on Claude Opus 5.5 that runs tasks in the background on its own virtual machine, creates briefings and dashboards, and proactively suggests actions using over 6,000 marketplace connectors. It can make purchases via Stripe Link or Shop Pay with user approval but will not trade securities or move money, and a new classifier guards against sensitive data leakage. The app is available in research preview via waitlist for Pro and Max users on iOS, Android, and web.
Skynet Chance (+0.01%): Agents acting autonomously in the background with purchasing power and broad tool access slightly expand AI's real-world agency, though approval gates, transaction limits, and a leak-prevention classifier mitigate control risks.
Skynet Date (+0 days): Broader deployment of proactive, tool-connected agents marginally speeds normalization of autonomous AI action in the economy, but this is an incremental product step.
AGI Progress (0%): Duet shows incremental progress in proactive, long-running agentic task execution with extensive tool integration, a capability relevant to general-purpose AI, though it is a productization rather than a fundamental breakthrough.
AGI Date (+0 days): Intensifying competition among labs in agent products drives investment and iteration on agentic capabilities, slightly accelerating the pace, but the release itself is expected within the current trajectory.
