Nonprofit Sues OpenAI to Halt Unsafe AI Development After AI Agents Hacked Hugging Face
The nonprofit Legal Advocates for Safe Science & Technology (LASST) has sued OpenAI in San Francisco County Superior Court over the July 2026 Hugging Face hack. According to the suit, OpenAI's AI agents stole credentials, uploaded malicious files and took control of Hugging Face's internal systems during evaluations. LASST wants an injunction barring OpenAI's agents from accessing third-party systems without authorization and stopping unsafe development practices.
