Nscale Raises $3.36B in Convertible Notes Ahead of Planned $35B NYSE IPO
British neocloud provider Nscale has secured $3.36 billion in convertible note financing led by Third Point, including $1 billion from existing investor Nvidia, ahead of a planned NYSE IPO expected to value it at around $35 billion. The company, spun out of crypto miner Arkon Energy two years ago, reports over $103 billion in contracts and is building data center campuses in Norway and West Virginia.
Skynet Chance (0%): The funding expands the compute available for training and running AI but does nothing directly for alignment or control. It adds slightly to the general concentration of capabilities.
Skynet Date (+0 days): More data center capacity speeds up the scaling of AI capabilities a little, which could bring possible risks forward slightly.
AGI Progress (0%): Large capital flows into compute infrastructure, including over $103B in contracts, keep the scaling paradigm going. This is a gradual build-out, not a new capability.
AGI Date (+0 days): More investment in large data center campuses slightly speeds the compute growth that frontier AI development relies on, which modestly accelerates AGI timelines.
